Welcome to Year 1

Year 1 at Meynell is a bright, welcoming and exciting place to learn. Children are encouraged to explore new ideas, follow their curiosity and begin to believe in themselves as growing, confident learners. Every day brings opportunities to discover, practise new skills and enjoy learning together.

Our Year 1 classroom is full of energy, hands‑on activities and purposeful play. Children learn through stories, early reading and phonics (using Read Write Inc.), practical tasks, problem‑solving and outdoor exploration. These experiences help them build independence, develop confidence and take pride in what they can achieve.

We create a nurturing environment where kindness, resilience and enthusiasm are celebrated. Children are supported to try their best, share their ideas and develop a positive attitude toward learning.

Year 1 is a wonderful year of growth, curiosity and new adventures — helping children to aspire, aim high and continue building strong foundations for the years ahead.
